Today, Muslims in Toronto have the privilege to practice the religion of Islam in dozens of Mosques and Islamic community centres with hundreds of thousands of fellow believers. The Albanian Muslim Society of Toronto (AMST), founded on November 15, 1957, paved the way as the first Mosque in Ontario at a time when a place of worship was necessary for the growing Muslim community.
Nearly seven decades later, the original Mosque of AMST is still actively servicing the Muslim community as a whole. However, the Albanian Muslim community has continued to grow, and it is now time to build a new Mosque & community centre to properly serve the needs of Muslims in the GTA area.
Building Ontario’s first Mosque was a historical feat embedded in Canadian Muslim history forever. Those who took part in building the Mosque have partaken in all of the good deeds that have occurred because of the Mosque & may Allah continue to bless them in continuous deeds that continue to happen.
The Albanian Muslims of the time saw a need for a Mosque & got together to make it happen; a challenging project but something very successful even almost seven decades later. Today you & your family enjoy all the benefits of the Mosque due to the hard work of the founders. It is now time for you to build something that is, God willing, much more significant than our Mosque to provide for the Islamic needs of many more Muslims to come. It is your time to build something planned to pass the test of time & be here for the Muslims for the rest of the century & beyond.
Almighty Allah says in the Holy Qur’an:
“The Likeness of those who spend their wealth in the Way of Allah is as the likeness of a grain of corn: It grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. And Allah gives manifold increase to whomever He wants. And Allah cares for all and He knows all things.” [AL-BAQARAH, 2:261]
Why We Need a new Mosque
It is your time to be a part of Muslim history in Ontario & God willing, receive Allah’s reward for every good deed performed in this Islamic centre. Our Albanian Muslim community is flourishing; we must guide our children & youth in a way where they can nurture their love for Islam and develop their Muslim character & knowledge of their religion.
We want to build a new Mosque to meet all the needs of the Albanian Muslim community that have evolved over the past few decades. We plan to build a Mosque in the Etobicoke/Mississauga area that will be easy to access by major highways. We plan to construct a place of worship with a good accessibility aspect, adequate space for parking & be big enough to allow for large Eid prayers, Islamic youth classes & other Islamic community activities.

Why We Need a new Mosque
We have outgrown the space from our current Mosque & unfortunately, we are not fulfilling our potential as Albanian Muslims in Toronto. Now is the time to maximize the usefulness of a new Mosque & take full advantage of the community centre and place of learning that it will be. With the new Mosque, the Albanian Muslim community will unite in worship like never before and allow our children to learn our Islamic & Albanian way of life. This Mosque will not only be a place for prayers, but it will also be a welcoming place for the whole community to get together for information, education & spending time together. It will be a place for solace & support, where we can educate the future of our community to maintain our Islamic faith for generations to come.
